Materials & Sourcing
Materials are fundamental to the expression of Claude Préval and to the enduring quality of every creation. Each leather, skin and component is selected with particular attention to its provenance, character, performance and ability to age beautifully.
The Maison works closely with carefully selected suppliers and artisans in France and Italy whose expertise reflects its exacting standards. Certain materials and finishes are developed specifically for Claude Préval according to the Maison’s aesthetic and technical requirements, contributing to the distinctive character of each creation.
Before entering production, each material is carefully examined to ensure consistency in quality, appearance and performance. This considered approach to sourcing and selection reflects the Maison’s commitment to creating pieces designed to last and created to be lived.
Development & Craftmanship
Claude Préval develops each creation in close collaboration with carefully selected, accomplished artisans, chosen for their craftsmanship, technical expertise, reliability and commitment to responsible working practices. These relationships are built over time and shaped by an ongoing dialogue between the Maison and its artisans.
From the first sketch to the final creation, each piece takes shape through a considered process of prototyping, refinement and precise execution. Materials, technical specifications and prototypes are examined at every stage of development, while production is closely followed to ensure consistency with the Maison’s aesthetic and exacting quality standards.
This collaborative approach brings together design, craftsmanship and technical expertise, allowing the Maison’s creative vision to take form through creations distinguished by precision, character and a distinctly Claude Préval expression.
Full-Grain Bull Hide
Claude Préval leather creations are crafted in natural full-grain bull hide from France, selected for the integrity of its surface, structured hand and exceptional durability. By preserving the natural grain of the hide, the leather retains its distinctive texture and individual variations.
Refined yet resilient, it is a leather designed to be lived with. Over time, its surface evolves gracefully, developing a subtle patina that reflects the life of each piece and makes it increasingly unique.
Crocodile Leather
For its most precious creations, the Maison selects rare Porosus and Niloticus crocodile leathers for their distinctive scales, depth of character and natural beauty. The unique variations of each skin ensure that no two creations are entirely alike.
The material is approached with restraint, allowing its inherent richness and distinctive texture to speak for themselves.
Ostrich Leather
Distinguished by its characteristic quill pattern, ostrich leather is selected by the Maison for its exceptional suppleness, distinctive texture and enduring quality. The natural variations of each skin lend every creation a unique character.
Precious yet resilient, ostrich leather combines remarkable softness with durability, revealing a richness of texture and depth that makes each creation distinctly individual.
Chèvre Leather
The same attention extends to the interior. Each creation is fully lined in fine natural chèvre leather, selected for its softness, lightness and durability.
Supple to the touch yet remarkably resilient, chèvre brings the same level of refinement to the interior, ensuring that every detail – seen or unseen – receives equal consideration.
Hand Saddle Stitching
Each creation is entirely saddle-stitched by hand using waxed linen thread, a traditional technique valued for its strength, precision and longevity.
Executed stitch by stitch, this method creates a construction designed to endure while revealing the mastery behind every seam. More than a finishing detail, it is an expression of the savoir-faire at the heart of every Claude Préval creation.
Hardware & Finishes
Crafted in Italy, the Maison’s hardware is carefully finished and polished for enduring quality and resistance to tarnishing. Each element is designed to complement the richness of the leather, bringing precision and refinement to the silhouette while fulfilling an essential function.
